★ PIAA District 2 XC Championships
The PIAA District II Cross Country Championships is a cross country meet held annually by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association at Lakeland Jr./Sr. High School on the last Wednesday in October. The meet serves as the qualifier for the PIAA State Championships held at the Parkview Cross Country Course every year in Hershey on the first Saturday in November. This meet is considered a showdown between top teams from the Lackawanna League and the Wyoming Valley Conference.
Until 2010, the meeting Place held annually in different locations in northeastern Pennsylvania including: municipal Golf course Scranton, McDade Scrantons Park, Wilkes-Barre, Kirby Park, Kingston townships State Park, Frances Slocum, and elk lake school in Dimock, PA. In 2012, PIAA add a "classification" traditional "AA" and "AAA" divisions, which existed since the Foundation of the meets. In the same year, Williamsport HS began district IV schools compete in district races for the second AAA, which makes it "regional", because there is no other "AAA" on classification of schools in a neighboring district IV.
For "A" and "AA" as a rule, the top 2 teams and top 10 individuals not from advancing the top 2 teams in the state championship. For "AAA", only the winning team and the top 5 people are not from the winning team to the state championship.
